Pre-night: Delhi • 7nts Palace on Wheels departing Delhi visiting Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur Ranthambhore, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Agra, Bharatpur and returning back to Delhi • Post-night Delhi
This week long train journey takes you through Rajasthan, visiting many cultural and historical highlights. It travels mainly by night, presenting you with a fresh new destination, ready for a new day’s exploration. The 14 sleeping coaches named after the states of Rajasthan, each contain 4 en-suite bedrooms. A mini-party and two members of staff take care of the guests. The train has 2 restaurants “The Maharaja†and “The Maharani†with a Rajasthani ambience serving Continental, Chinese, Indian and Rajasthani cuisines. Also on board is a bar, lounge and library. The Palace on Wheels tour may be combined with any of selection of our other tours.
Day 1 (Tues) Arrive Delhi: Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Claridges for an overnight stay.Â
Day 2 (Weds) Delhi – Jaipur: Board Palace on Wheels. Morning sightseeing tour of Delhi. Transfer to Safdarjung railway station approx. 16:00hrs – train departs 18:30hrs. The journey of a lifetime begins with a warm, traditional welcome before the Palace on Wheels pulls out into the night for a weeklong luxury journey through fascinating Rajasthan.
Day 3 (Thurs) Jaipur – Jaisalmer: Arrive 00:00hrs, depart 17:30hrs. Visit the city and Amber Palace. After lunch at a Palace Hotel, you are off to the City Palace and Jantar Mantar. Return back to the Palace on Wheels around 18:30 hrs and depart for Jaisalmer.
Day 4 (Fri) Jaisalmer – Jodhpur: Arrive 06:15hrs, depart 23:00hrs. Morning sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer. The city is a mass of intricately carved buildings, facades, and elaborate balconies. See Patwon-ki- haveli, Salim Singh-ki-haveli, and Gandhi Sagar Tank. After lunch on board, visit the sand dunes and enjoy an exciting camel ride to view the sunset, as the sky is set fire and the Rajasthani folk musicians play haunting tunes – an unforgettable experience.Enjoy the dinner and the cultural programmes at a hotel in Jaisalmer.
Day 5 (Sat) Jodhpur – Sawai Madhopur: Arrive 08:00hrs, depart 15: 30hrs. Morning sightseeing tour of Jodhpur, visit the rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort and the grand palaces within – Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana. Also visit Mandor – the ancient capital of Marwar. Lunch at Palace Hotel, return to the Palace on Wheels.
Day 6 (Sun) Sawai Madhopur – Chittaurgarh: Arrive 04:00hrs, depart 11:00hrs. One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the Palace on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur. After breakfast, visit Ranthambhore National Park, wherein are located the ruins of a 10th century fort. Upon returning to the Palace on Wheels, you depart for Chittaurgarh. After lunch on board spend time visiting the romantic town of Chittaurgarh and its Fort.
Day 7 (Mon) Chittaurgarh Bharatpur via Udaipur: Arrive 06:45hrs, depart 20:00hrs. After breakfast depart on a morning sightseeing tour of Udaipur. Marvel at rooms with mirrored walls and ivory doors, coloured glass windows and inlaid marble balconies and the Peacock Courtyard. Also visit the Saheliyon-ki-Bari Gardens, the Jagdish Temple and the local folk museum. Lunch at Palace hotel.
Day 8 (Tues) Bharatpur to Agra (by road) – Delhi: Arrive 06:00hrs, depart 20:00hrs. Visit Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Enjoy breakfast at Forest Lodge and then travel onwards to Fatehpur Sikri-the red sandstone Mughal palatial complex. After lunch onboard the train, visit the impressive Agra Fort and the The Taj Mahal.
Day 9 (Weds) – Delhi: Arrival 06:00hrs. Arrive at Safdarjung railway station at 6.00 hrs, after breakfast disembark Palace on Wheels. You will be met and transferred to Claridges for an overnight stay.
Day 10 (Thurs) Depart Delhi: Transfer to the airport to board your onward flight.
