Once onboard, meet your multidisciplinary Expedition Team, receive your complimentary wind- and water-resistant expedition jacket, and settle into your cabin. As evening falls, the ship casts off into the waters of Faxafli Bay. Take in panoramic coastal views from the observation deck while dining on delicious regional cuisine, anticipating the magnificent Arctic wilderness that awaits around the corner.
Day 3: Charming Grundarfjörður
Wake up anchored near Grundarfjörður, a picturesque fishing town situated on the iconic Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Rising dramatically over the fjord is Mount Kirkjufell, one of Iceland's most photographed mountains. Today's adventure offers access to Snæfellsjökull National Park, dominated by a glacier-capped stratovolcano made famous by Jules Verne. Explore black sand beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, lava fields, and rugged sea stacks. Guided hikes and small-boat cruising reveal rich birdlife and spectacular geological formations, while optional excursions venture deep into ancient lava tube caves or along rugged coastal paths, providing an unforgettable introduction to Iceland's volcanic heritage.
Day 4: Picturesque safjrur
Navigate deep into the remote Westfjords, a breathtaking region of sheer table-topped mountains, plunging fjords, and secluded valleys. Arrive at Safjarvík, the largest settlement in the peninsula, surrounded by towering peaks on all sides. Explore the town's rich maritime past through its historic 18th-century timber buildings, the oldest intact structures in Iceland. Join expert naturalists for scenic shore walks along the shoreline, or take in the tranquillity of the surrounding nature. Optional activities include sea kayaking through glassy waters, visiting the nearby island of Vigur to spot nesting eiders, or discovering cascading waterfalls nestled deep within the surrounding fjords.
Day 5: Akureyri and Goafoss
Sail into Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord, heading toward Akureyri, known as the capital of the north. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, this charming city boasts lush botanical gardens and a thriving local arts scene. Today's main highlight is a visit to Goafoss, the legendary "Waterfall of the Gods," where river waters cascade dramatically into a swirling canyon. You can also explore the surrounding Lake Mvatn region, famous for its otherworldly geothermal features, bubbling mud pools, steam vents, and bizarre lava formations. Return to the ship to unwind in the outdoor hot tubs while sailing northern waters
Day 6: Hsafvik and the Arctic Circle
Arrive in Hsafvik, globally renowned as Europe's premier whale-watching capital. Set on Skjlfandi Bay, these nutrient-rich coastal waters attract numerous whale species, including humpbacks, minkes, harbour porpoises, and even massive blue whales. Board small expedition boats or traditional oak vessels to scan the horizon for flukes and spouts alongside marine biologists. Visit the local Hsavk Whale Museum to learn about these gentle giants before setting sail northward. As your expedition ship crosses the Arctic Circle boundary, participate in a classic maritime tradition on deck, celebrating your entry into the true polar realm.
Day 7: Puffins Up Close
Drop anchor near the isolated eastern settlement of Borgarfjrur Eystri, home to Bakkageri and one of Iceland's most famous Atlantic Puffin colonies. Land at the small harbour of Hafnarhlmi and walk along dedicated wooden boardwalks that let you view thousands of nesting puffins, fulmars, and kittiwakes at remarkably close range without disturbing their habitat. The surrounding region is equally steeped in Icelandic folklore and is celebrated as the home of the "Elven Queen." Enjoy peaceful guided hikes through pristine valleys, take in dramatic fjord vistas, and experience the warm, authentic hospitality of this remote, close-knit coastal community.
Day 8: Heimaey's Explosive Past
Sail south to the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) and dock at Heimaey, an island defined by dramatic geology and resilience. In 1973, a surprise volcanic eruption from Mount Eldfell nearly destroyed the town and harbour. Walk up the still-warm slopes of the Eldfell crater for incredible views over the island, and visit the interactive Eldheimar Museum to see excavated homes preserved under volcanic ash. The dramatic sea cliffs around the island are also home to millions of seabirds, making small-boat cruising around the craggy inlets, sea caves, and hidden coves an absolute highlight of the day.
Day 9: Reykjavik and Beyond
Complete your 360-degree circumnavigation of Iceland as your ship returns to Reykjavik Harbour in the early morning. After enjoying a final breakfast onboard with your fellow travellers and Expedition Team, disembark the vessel with unforgettable memories of Arctic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and volcanic wonders. Depending on your flight schedule, take extra time to relax in the nearby geothermal waters of the world- famous Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon, or extend your adventure into Iceland's interior along the famous Golden Circle route before beginning your journey home.
