Day 3: Reykjavik, Iceland
After arriving early and enjoying your independent hotel stay in Reykjavik, check in with the hospitality desk this afternoon. You will then be transferred directly to the port to embark the ship and settle into your cabin before setting sail.
Day 4: Djupavik
Enjoy a leisurely morning at sea learning about Iceland and its incredible biodiversity. Join your expedition staff on the bow of the ship as you keep watch for the close to 20 different whale species that call the Westfjords home. Spend the afternoon on the remote eastern side of the Westfjords, an area difficult to access but boasting spectacular beauty and rich history. Visit the historic herring plant museum to learn about the 1930s golden age of the industry or choose from active hiking options in the surrounding mountainsides.
Day 5: Skagafjordur
Explore the gateway to north Iceland known for its glacial rivers, Icelandic horses and saga history. Take a float trip on the Jokulsa River or visit a historic rural turf farm to understand traditional life and see the iconic Icelandic horses. Finally learn about Grettir the Strong by exploring Drangey Island spotting multitudes of cliff nesting birds like kittiwakes, shearwaters and potentially gyrfalcons.
Day 6 - 7: East Coast of Greenland
Strike out across the Denmark Strait to the wild shores of East Greenland where exploration is shaped entirely by the Arctic's ever-changing ice conditions. Navigate among sculpted icebergs and vast ice floes, keeping a watchful eye from the Bridge or deck for humpbacks, beluga whales, seals, and with luck, the elusive polar bear. Continue your exploration of East Greenland's dramatic waterways. Depending on shifting summer ice conditions, venture into remote deep fjords to make landings along the wild coast. Maximize your time in this pristine polar wilderness with opportunities for hiking, kayaking, or guided Zodiac cruising.
Day 8 - 9: Westfjords of Iceland
Return to the peaceful Westfjords region of Iceland and enter the spectacular Isafjardardjup fjord. Land at Vigur Island to visit a local eider farm to learn about traditional eiderdown collection. Walk over custom boardwalks winding through a prolific puffin colony, a conservation project designed to protect the birds while allowing scientists to safely study them. Spend another day exploring a stunning remote fjord in the Westfjords. Choose from tailored expedition activities, including scenic hikes along pristine fjord trails that lead to dramatic towering waterfalls cascading down from the high plateaus above.
Day 10: Reykjavik, Iceland
Enjoy your final breakfast on board before disembarking the ship in Reykjavik. Transfer to the airport for your flights home, carrying memories of the Arctic edges with you.
