Day 1: Arrive Delhi
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Delhi
Full day sightseeing tour of Delhi. Explore the Qutab Complex which houses India’s biggest single tower, the Qutab Minar, and the 4th century rust free Iron Pillar; the Mughal citadel named Lal Qila (Red Fort); and Lutyens’ Delhi. Also, visit the grand Jama Masjid and Humayan’s Tomb – a monument commissioned by Bega Begum in memory of her beloved husband.
Day 3: Delhi to Agra
Today you will continue to Agra and enjoy an evening at leisure.
Day 4: Agra
Visit the Taj Mahal this morning. Nothing can prepare you for the experience of this monument. Built by The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631 giving birth to their 14th child. It is an acclaimed architectural masterpiece and one of the wonders of the world. 20,000 workers laboured for 22 years to build this sublime garden tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. The unique mughal style combines elements of Persian, Central Asian, and Islamic architecture. In the afternoon visit Agra Fort and Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah, also known as ‘Baby Taj’.
Day 5: Agra to Amritsar via Delhi
This morning you will travel to Delhi railway station to board the train for Amritsar where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a 2night stay.
Day 6: Amritsar
Day at leisure to explore, the spiritual centre of the Sikh religion - the Golden Temple, one of the most spiritual locations, including the Divine Temple and the Pool of Nectar. The temple kitchen provides an amazing 40,000 free meals a day; a figure that can rise to 100,000 on holidays or special festivals. You will also visit Jallianwala Bagh the site of an infamous massacre that took place in 1919. Visitors to the Golden Temple must remove their shoes, wash their feet and cover their heads with a scarf. Later afternoon you will travel to Wagah border, where India meets Pakistan, and you can observe the ‘beating the retreat’ ceremony.
Day 7: Amritsar to Parwanoo
Today there is a long drive to Parwanoo, which in just a few decades has transformed from a sleepy little village to a pulsating industrial town. Upon arrival in Parwanoo, you will take the spectacular cable car to the top of the mountain where you can check in at your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 8: Parwanoo to Shimla
Transfer from top to the base of the mountain and then drive to Shimla. The scenery and ambiance of this area attracted the British in such measure that it seemed justifiable to shift the complete administration of an Empire from Calcutta to Shimla. Upon arrival check in for a stay of 3 nights.
Day 9: Shimla
Morning enjoy a Heritage Walk through the town’s Architectural Heritage Zone that brings you close to various architectural sites of the British era such as the Bantony, Betinks Castle, Railway Board Building, Gorton Castle, Knokcdrin Sanitarium, the Cecil Hotel, Inverarm and the State Museum (closed on Monday). Later enjoy visiting the Jhaku Temple which is located on the town’s highest peak and offers a spectacular vantage point for Shimla’s famous views. The summit is crowned with a temple dedicated to monkey God Hanuman.
Day 10: Shimla
Today you will enjoy an excursion to Kufri & Chail.
Day 11: Shimla to Kalka by toy train & Kalka to Delhi by Shatabdi Express
Transfer to Shimla railway station to board the train for a scenic journey on the narrow gauge train which takes you through 102 tunnels, many arched bridges and several picturesque stations on its 96 Km journey to Kalka where you will connect with the Shatabdi express to Delhi. Local snacks, tea or coffee will be served on board. Upon arrival in Delhi railway station, transfer to your hotel.
Day 12: Delhi
Transfer to the airport to board flight for onward journey.
