Day 1: Dublin
Flight from London Heathrow Airport to Dublin Airport, Ireland
STAY: Cassidys Hotel
Cassidy’s Hotel is situated in the heart of Dublin city centre, right opposite the famous Gate Theatre on Upper O’Connell Street and close to everything a visitor to Dublin could want. This charming family-run boutique hotel offers warm Irish hospitality, comfortable rooms, and great value in a prime location. With top attractions like Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, and the Jameson Distillery just a short walk away, it’s the perfect base for an easy and memorable Dublin stay.
Dublin, Ireland
Your expedition begins in the vibrant, literary city of Dublin. After boarding the National Geographic Explorer, settle into your cabin and meet the world-class expedition team that will guide your journey through the North Atlantic. As the ship slips away from the dock and navigates out into the Irish Sea, enjoy a welcome cocktail and the first of many gourmet meals prepared with fresh, regional ingredients. The evening offers a perfect opportunity to head to the Observation Lounge, where you can toast to the adventure ahead while the Irish coastline fades into the twilight.
Day 2: Rathlin Island, Northern Ireland
Start your expedition on Rathlin Island, home of Northern Ireland's largest puffin colony, perched precariously on seaside cliffs. It is also home to thousands of seabirds, including guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars. Take the shuttle up to the cliffs and home to the Rathlin West Light, the upside-down lighthouse, built between 1912 and 1917. From here, you can peer over the cliffs and observe the seabirds that call these dramatic drops home. After getting your fill of the cliffs and panoramic sea views, hike along the country lane back to the harbour and witness daily island life around you.
Day 3 & 4: Isle of Skye - Loch Ewe, Scotland
Sail through the Sea of the Hebrides to the Isle of Skye, a land defined by its rugged landscapes, medieval castles, and charming fishing villages. After a day spent exploring the islands' winding inlets, perhaps punctuated by a "wee dram" of local whisky, venture further up the coast to the historic Loch Ewe. Once a vital hub for maritime trade and military convoys, the loch is now home to the lush Inverewe Gardens. Under the stewardship of the National Trust for Scotland, these gardens offer a tranquil morning backdrop for observing the "Scottish Big Five": red squirrels, red deer, otters, seals, and golden eagles. It is a journey that perfectly balances Scotland's wild coastal heritage with the serene beauty of its cultivated highlands.
Day 5 & 7: Shetland and Orkney
Rounding the northernmost reaches of the United Kingdom, spend three days winding south through the storied archipelagos of Shetland and Orkney. In Shetland, a cluster of 16 islands, you can delve into a unique blend of Viking heritage, Norwegian roots, and resilient maritime farming culture. Moving to Orkney, discover the historic capital of Kirkwall and the famous naval waters of Scapa Flow. Throughout this journey, your expedition team will utilise Zodiacs to access remote piers and secluded beaches, offering rare opportunities to explore ancient stone brochs overlooking the North Sea and hike across pristine island trails.
Day 8: Edinburgh
Awaken in the Firth of Forth as you arrive in Leith, the historic gateway to Edinburgh. After a final breakfast on board, disembark to explore Scotland's majestic capital, a city where medieval Old Town tenements and grand Neoclassical New Town buildings coexist under the watchful eye of Edinburgh Castle. Whether you choose to stroll the cobblestones of the Royal Mile, climb the volcanic heights of Arthur's Seat for a panoramic farewell view, or delve into the city's rich Enlightenment history, Edinburgh provides a grand finale to your voyage through the British Isles.
