Introduction

Off the coast of Tamil Nadu, half way across the Bay of Bengal, lies the Andaman Islands. A Union Territory of India, 572 islands form the group. Only 38 islands are inhabited, and much of the coastline is a declared marine reserve. Surrounded by coral reefs, and with white beaches, this unpolluted paradise is treasure for divers and snorkellers. Some of the areas can be visited by glass-bottomed boats to view the underwater life of the sea in comfort.

Havelock Island
It is situated 57kms North East of Port Blair. There are white sand beaches, turquoise waters, coral reefs with lot of marine life including dolphins, turtles and very large fish. The waters here are ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Cinque Island
Surrounded by pristine coral reefs, North and South Cinque are amongst the prettiest islands in the Andamans.

Long Island
This island is 82kms from Port Blair by sea, connected by a ferry thrice a week from Phoenix Bay Jetty. It has a beautiful forest patch and coconut plantations.

Ross Island, Neil Island, Rangat, Jolly Buoy, Red skin Island, Viper Island, Chatham Island, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Little Andaman Island are some of the other islands.
