The vast array of architectural styles, famous land marks, museum's of Kentucky's past and unique shopping make Frankfort a special place to visit. Kentucky's capital city limits are approximately 50 miles east of Louisville and 25 miles west of Lexington.
Kentucky's State Capitol, one of the most beautiful in the country, was completed in 1910. Visitors are fascinated by the First Lady Doll Collection and the huge floral clock on the capitol grounds. Nearby is the beautiful Governor's Mansion, modeled after the Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette's summer villa. The Old State Capitol, noted for its Greek Revival architecture, features a unique stone circular stairway held together only by precision and pressure. Daniel and Rebecca Boone are buried in Frankfort Cemetery. Visit the Kentucky and Military history museums, the old Governor's Mansion, Liberty Hall, Orlando Brown and Vest-Lindsey houses, Buffalo Trace Distillery, Labrot Graham Distillery, and the unique sundial Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Kentucky History Center has interactive exhibits, a geneological library and a museum store. The Salato Wildlife Education Center has interactive and interpretive exhibits featuring native plants and animals.
