Information about Vietnam

Vietnam is hauntingly beautiful: patchworks of brilliant green paddies, mist shrouded mountains and sweeping deserted beaches make up the stunning natural scenery. Despite its history of turmoil and violence the Vietnamese people are friendly, hospitable and happy to welcome you into their historic towns and sleepy fishing villages. Long closed to the outside world, Vietnam retains a charming innocence that more visited regions lack.

WHEN TO GO
There is no real best time to visit Vietnam: although it is especially hot and humid between June and September, and Hanoi & the north are cool and often misty from December to February. May to October is generally classed as the wet season, but rain is normally confined to an hour or 2 each day, so shouldn’t dampen your enjoyment of the country!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
One of the highlights of any trip to Vietnam is the fabulous cuisine: a mouth-watering mix of Chinese, Thai and French influences. Spring rolls dipped in a pungent fish sauce or soy sauce, are a Vietnamese favourite. The French also introduced café culture that can be found in Hanoi. In Saigon and Hanoi there is a generous array of international cuisine, while in most provincial areas the choice is more limited.

FESTIVALS
Tet-Festival (Jan/Feb). This is the Vietnamese New Year and the most important holiday in Vietnam. Every house and street will be decorated; candles and flowers are floated down rivers; special food is prepared and everyone joins in the festivities. Celebrations usually last for a week and all shops are closed. Further Information Visit the Tourism Authority of Vietnam website on www.vietnamtourism.com
